Rack-mountable and Safe for Data Centers
  • Now your classified storage media never have to leave your secure server room or facilities for destruction by a third party contractor, eliminating chain-of-custody and other security risks.
  • At-the-source, in-house destruction saves time and money over outsourcing.
  • The MVR is tailor-made for data center deployment. It is rack mountable utilizing 9 standard rack units, including the secure debris drawer. Other HDD destroyers have large footprints and typically have to be mounted on a table taking up valuable real estate in a data center, or on a shelf in a rack and may occupy up to 17 rack units.
  • The MVR fits EIA (Electronic Industries Alliance) standard server racks (typically 42U high, 19” wide with rails 17¾" (450.85 mm) apart; 1U = 1¾" (44.45 mm).
  • The MVR is also adaptable to mobile racks (typically 12-22U). Mobile racks are the ideal vehicle for a complete mobile erasure/overwrite and destruction platform for data centers.

  • Destroys HDD’s to RCMP Standards
  • On June 8th, 2015, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) included the MVR-HDD in their Security Equipment Guideline (SEG). The MVR-HDD is approved for secure destruction of HDDs containing Protected levels A&B information without (though recommended) overwriting or degaussing; Protected C and Secret information provided the information had been encrypted, overwritten or degaussed before.

  • Destroys SSDs to RCMP Standards
  • While the MVR-HDD is designed specifically for destruction of HDDs, in limited circumstances, it may also be used to crush and destroy SSDs making them unreadable by normal means.
  • The RCMP has therefore approved the MVR-HDD for secure destruction of SSDs, USBs, PDAs, Smart Phones and other miniaturized electronic storage devices containing Protected levels A & B and Confidential information without (though recommended) prior clearing or overwriting; and Protected C and Secret information provided the information had been encrypted, cleared or overwritten before.

  • Complete Media Destruction
  • The Phiston MVR-HDD's proprietary 20 ton crusher, and patented corrugated crushing plates, grind together and destroy the magnetic storage platter surfaces and sensitive read heads in HDDs, rendering them inoperable. This ubiquitous grinding and crushing action destroys more of the HDD's data storage media than simply folding or punching a few holes in it.
  • Rack-mountable in Standard Racks. Uses 9 rack units
  • At-the-Source, In-house High Security Data Storage Media Destruction saves time and money and HDDs never leave your Data Center intact
  • Destroys HDD’s to RCMP Standards
  • Will also destroy SSD’s, cell phones, PDAs and other small electronic devices making them inoperable.
  • Complete Media Destruction
  • Highest Standards of Worker and Environmental Health and Safety
  • HEPA Filtration to trap any airborne debris particles
  • Fully automated, safe, simple hands-off operation
  • Locking Drawer to collect and securely store destroyed media
  • Radio Frequency and Electro-Magnetic Interference abatement
  • Highest Standards of Worker and Environmental Health and Safety
All our products are designed so they can be operated in business offices, computer data centers and other clean room environments that require stringent control over airborne emissions and waste containment.
  • HEPA Filtration of Airborne Particulates: Increasingly, destroyers are employing crushing, shattering, drilling, bending, breaking, grinding, punching and disintegration to render media inoperable. All of these methods result in hazardous shards of media debris, and particles fine enough to become airborne. The greatest concern is inhalable airborne silica, heavy metals and fiberglass found in circuit boards, ceramics and silicon based semiconductors. Phiston takes this potential hazard very seriously. In addition to the MVR, all machines manufactured by Phiston will be equipped with an MRV-8 on-board high-efficiency particulate air filtration system (HEPA) to trap any airborne debris particles that could be harmful to health or environment. Dust particle build-up can also be damaging to computer servers and other sensitive electronic equipment found in data centers and clean rooms (such as laboratories). Phiston is also making available to past customers, a HEPA filtration accessory that can be retro-fitted to machines already in service.
  • Safe, Simple, Hands-Off Operation: Operator safety is of paramount importance to us. All our destroyers are designed to be completely hands-off and automatic after the media is inserted, all the way through to disposal of debris. The process is as simple as sliding the MVR forward in the rack, inserting media in the drop doors, and pressing the start button. The operator never has to touch potentially dangerous debris with splinters and sharp edges.
  • Our machines are designed with lock-out doors, and will not engage unless the doors are completely closed preventing hands or pieces of clothing from being carelessly caught in the crushing mechanism.
  • In the case of the MVR, destroyed media fall directly into a locked, secure debris collection drawer that can accommodate up to 25 destroyed HDDs and other media. The operator never has to touch the debris to remove it from the crushing chamber.
  • There are instances when the operator may need to handle the crushed media such as: (a) to photograph serial numbers or UPCs on the media after destruction; (b) to rearrange crushed media in the drawer; or (c) to empty the drawer. In these instances, the operator must wear appropriate hand protection before opening the drawer.

  • Security of Media after Destruction
  • Media destroyed in the MVR fall directly into a locked, secure debris collection drawer that can accommodate up to 25 destroyed HDDs and other media until the debris can be disposed of appropriately. A security pass code must be entered on the MVR key pad in order to open the drawer and/or remove it for proper disposal of debris. At-the-source, in-house destruction saves time and money over outsourcing, and the HDDs never leave the secure data center intact

  • Radio Frequency & Electro-Magnetic Interference Abatement
  • RFI and EMI can be bothersome and sometimes damaging in data centers and other installations with sensitive electronic equipment. Phiston machines are completely encased in heavy gauge steel enclosures that, along with additional internal shielding and noise suppression, reduce RFI and EMI to almost undetectable levels not achievable in aluminum encased machines.
